Progress not perfection
A little nudge from me to you, to just DO it. Take pen to paper, form the clay, walk the first mile. Or LAUNCH your website!
Progress (rather than perfection) does not exclude quality. Conversely, you can have a grammatically, technically, or otherwise perfect creation; A website, a book, a photograph -or a cake, and yet biting in, you find it’s utterly flavourless.
Of course we should endeavour to ensure that anything we do is of QUALITY, but the two are not synonymous.
And waiting for perfection can keep you from everything that you are here to say, do, or be. A lifetime can pass while waiting.
Perfectionists is an insidious affliction.
It is the killer of creativity, and the breaker of hearts. The minimiser of expansion, and it crushes dreams. I know all of this painfully well.
What is the worst that can happen? Perhaps it doesn’t turn out "right".
And surprise, we don't die. And it get’s better.
With progress, comes new openings, and new places for our ideas to take root.
Possibilities previously unknown gain traction, and can percolate.
And maybe ...the best that can happen, actually does.
1, No one else will see the “imperfection” you see. (Truth; most people are too busy obsessing about their own imperfections) And if they do notice -and they take the time to care, does it really matter?
2, The only way to get better is to DO. That’s the progress part.
3, This is why we have an “edit” button. So too, a delete button …you can always redo.
4, Haven’t you been waiting long enough??
It really doesn't matter WHAT we do, it’s the action-taking that is key.
The action creates the momentum that opens the doors which could not have been reached, if that first step hadn’t been taken. More inspiration happens. And more becomes possible.
Each thing we do that aligns with our own unique voice and unfettered creative impulse toward more good things in the world, feeds a bigger shift. The whole becomes greater.
It doesn’t have to be big, technicolor, or game-changing to be significant.
A gorgeously chewy-yet-crusty just baked sourdough loaf is a glorious thing, equal to that of a page of poetry.
Neither begins as a masterpiece. Bubbling yeast …scribbles on a page …
